Weekend Recap September 29th+30th

Oct 2, 2023

The Maine Nordiques hit the road to faceoff against the Northeast Generals in their first interdivision road game of the season. The Nordiques were coming off of a bye weekend earned from an organization best performance at the 2023 NAHL showcase in Blaine Minnesota the week prior when they captured 7 out of an 8 possible points at the showcase.

Friday-

The Nordiques took a minute to find their footing as they couldn’t find the back of the net but they were able to hold the Generals off the scoresheet as well after one period of play. It took a while to see the game’s first goal but Charles Tardif found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season on the assist from the Red-hot Kellen Murphy to give the Nords the lead after two periods of play.

The third period took a turn for the worse for the Nordiques however as the Generals would open the period on 3 straight goals. The Nordiques would battle back to pull the game within one goal on Nick Romeo’s tally but it would be too little too late for the Nordiques and the Generals would hang on for the win.

Saturday-

The Nordiques were fired up and wanted revenge from the previous night. Jake Bernadet set the tone and wasted no time doing so when he picked up his third goal of the season just 38 seconds into the game. The Nords would keep up the pressure in the form of kellen Murphy putting home his seventh goal and his first of 3 points in the game. Newcomer Arseni Vorobyov wanted in on the scoring and added his first in a Nordiques jersey off a great feed from Murphy. JP Steele then got his first of the season followed by a tally from Shane Kozlina. The Nordiques weren’t done there however as Charles Tardif recorded his second of the weekend. The Nordiques started the game with six goals in the first twelve minutes. The Generals would add one to end the first to make it 6-1 after one period of play.

The Nordiques didn’t let the end of the first let them down as Jake Bernadet would go in between the legs on a breakaway in a goal that will end up on the NAHL top plays to make it a 7-1 Nords lead. Nick Romeo would add his seventh of the season to end the second. The Generals would add another in the third but it wouldn’t even come close to stopping the Nordiques cruising away with two points.
