Weekend Recap 10/6+10/7
The Maine Nordiques were coming off of an “off” weekend and were returning home to play at The Colisee for their first matchup against the Philadelphia Rebels of the season.
FRIDAY
The first period started with the Rebels scoring back to back goals. It would stay that way for 10 minutes of action until Kellen Murphy put one into the back of the net. JP Steele would double up the Nordiques lead for his second of the season to make it 2-2 after one period of play.
The second period started with a rebels goal until the Nordiques got onto a power play late and Kellen Murphy would stay hot with his second of the game to tie it at 3 with seconds left in the second period.
Jack Kurrle would record his second of the season to open the third period but the rebels would get it back quickly. The game would remain knotted up at four and need overtime. Shane Kozlina would get a great chance late in an overtime that the Nordiques dominated but the rebels would force a shootout.
In the shootout the Rebels went first and Tommy Heaney made a big stop. Cody Pisarczyk got denied.
Round 2: the Rebels would score and Shane Kozlina would get robbed on a great chance
Round 3: The Rebels found the back of the net to win the shootout and game 5-4.
SATURDAY
The Rebels would score twice in the first to take a commanding 2-0 lead. After the first. They would add another in the second for the lone goal and open the third period with a tally. The Nordiques would respond as Tardif potted his 6th of the season but the Rebels would get back to back goals as a response. Cody Pisarczyk would add one with seconds left but it would be too little too late and the Rebels came away with a 6-2 win.
