Nordiques take 3 out of 4 points from Titans

The Maine Nordiques took on the New Jersey Titans following a sweep of the Northeast Generals on the road.

Friday:

The Nordiques got off to a slow start when the Titans were able to take a 8-2 advantage in shots in the opening 10 minutes and got rewarded when they found the back of the net to take a 1-0 Lead after one period of play.

The Titans opened up the second period with a power play goal as well to take a 2-0 lead. The Nordiques were quick to respond as 4 minutes later David Helledy would strike for his 10th of the season. David was followed by Liam Gilmartin who found the back of the net off a great tip in front to tie it up at two just before the period ended.

The Titans opened up the third with a goal just a minute in to take the lead. The Nordiques however would swing to the power play and Charlie Tardif would score his 30th of the season. The Titans would strike back five minutes later however and retake their lead. The Nordiques pulled Tommy Heaney who finished with 23/27 saves, for the extra attacker, and Kellen Murphy would fire home a rebound to tie the game with 36 seconds left, and with the goal he became the Nordiques all time goals leader with 38.

Overtime was needed and in the extra frame it was all Nordiques but they just couldn’t put one past the Titans goaltender. A shootout was needed and in the 5th round the titans would score and take the win.

Saturday:

The Nordiques came out fired up and ready to play as they would get to a power play and Nick Bernardo would find the back of the net for his 5th of the season. Jake Bernadet and Kellen Murphy would quickly follow their tallies and the Nordiques would lead 3-0 after the first frame.
