Nordiques end long road trip with a point
The Maine Nordiques took on the Johnstown Tomahawks for their last weekend series in their near month long road trip
Friday:
It got off to a back and forth start from the Nordiques and Tomahawks as both squads looked for the upper hand early. Nordiques goalie Tommy Heaney stood tall to keep it a 0-0 game until late in the first period former Maine Nordique Alexey Yarmulnik would score to make it 1-0 Tomahawks after the first frame.
The Nordiques would come out flying in the second period however as Jake Bernadet would find the back of the net for his 16th goal of the season to tie it up. After some back and forth action the Nordiques were stunned by two quick back to back goals from the Tomahawks to make it 3-1. David Helledy would respond however two minutes later to pull the Nordiques within 1 after two periods.
The Nordiques would try and battle back in the third and use their momentum as David Helledy scored within the ten minute mark to open the period. The Tomahawks would get it back to give them the lead but Nordique Top Prospect Charlie Tardif would find the back of the net with one minute left to play to tie it up and force overtime
In the overtime frame Tommy Heaney made a huge 2 on 1 save which led to a chance for the Nordiques the other way but they would get stonewalled by the Tomahawks goaltender.
The game would need a shootout and in the second round the Tomahawks would score to seal the deal and pick up the extra point.
The Nordiques power play would go 3/6 and their PK 5/5
Saturday:
On Saturday the Nordiques were looking for a win to end their road trip and head back to The Colisee on a good note
The game got off to a quick start when the Tomahawks would score within the first two minutes to open the game. Nordiques netminder Carter Richardson would come up with some big saves midway through the period but the Nordiques wouldn’t be able to score. 1-0 Hawks after 1
The Tomahawks and Nordiques would battle in the second period after a lengthy delay due to a problem with the ice but the Tomahawks would score another to end the game with a 2-0 victory
The Nordiques next game is back at The Colisee in Lewiston on February 9th and 10th against the Danbury Hat Tricks
