The Nordiques were taking on the Tomahawks for the third and final game of the weekend series.
The first period started with some Nordiques offense, but a puck would make it past the defense giving the Tomahawks the conversion with a 2-on-1 chance. The Tomahawks would continue the attack when the Nordiques defense and Kael Depape would stand tall warding off the Tomahawks. The game’s physical side would pick up and result in 4-on-4. The Nordiques worked the puck around where Sterling Wolters had room to walk down off the blue line and snipe one to the far side. 1-1 after one period of play.
The beginning of the second was back and forth, with the physicality heating up. At the midway mark of the period, the Nordiques couldn’t get it out of their own end opening up the chance to the Tomahawks conversion of a turnover. The Nordiques would get a power play chance which they couldn’t break it into the zone cleanly and would not generate any shots on net on the max advantage. The Tomahawks controlled the period, but Kael Depape would keep his team in it. 2-1 Hawks after forty minutes.
The Nordiques needed a big third period and started the right way on a rush chance where Brendan Gibbons found Kellen Murphy alone in front and tied it at two, three minutes into the period. The Nordiques would take a penalty, despite Depape making a big save, the puck went to the Tomahawks and would take the lead back with 11 minutes to play in the third. Moments later, Wiberg took a stick to the face leading the Nordiques to the man advantage would get back to work. The power play got limited chances and the Tomahawks responded with back to back tallies to go up 5-2 with 7:49 left. The Nordiques tried to battle back but couldn’t convert.
