The Nordiques we’re taking on the New Jersey titans on the road to begin a two-game set.
The first period got off to a hot start for the Nords, as Kellen Murphy would convert on a 2-on-1 feed from Blake Rothstein to take a 1-0 lead early. The Nordiques weren’t done; 24 seconds later Alexi Yarmulnik tipped in a chance from Aidan Coupe for his first career NAHL goal to go up by 2. Play settled down before Gibbons found Yarmulnik to make it 3-0. That would signal the hook for the Titan’s goaltender. The Titans got one back on a power play before the period ended to make it a 3-1 game after the opening frame.
The second period started with a Titans goal gaining reach with the score. The Nordiques tried to get back on the attack but the Titans would tie it at 3. About a minute later the Nordiques would head to their first power play of the game and Oliver Genest would bang home a rebound to give the Nordiques the lead back. The Titans would respond following the goal with some offensive pressure; Kael DePape would come up with some great stops in net. Towards the back five minutes of the period, it was all Nordiques offensively but were stonewalled by the Titan’s goaltender. 4-3 Nords after two periods.
The third period started with a bad turnover in neutral ice for the Nords which lead to a Titans goal to tie it up at 4 just moments into the frame. Back-and-forth action in the third, but it was all 5-on-5 and goaltending getting the upper hand. For the first time this season, the Nordiques would head to overtime.
The Nordiques would start with possession and get a great chance but couldn’t hit the net. The Titans would then get on the attack and dig the puck from the corner and convert on a chance in front. 5-4 Titans, final.
The Nords do get a point, but look for two points tomorrow at 7pm for game two against the Titans.
