Eric Soltys

Organizational General Manager

Soltys brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from all levels of the game including coaching, management, and scouting. He was a two-time national champion as an assistant coach at Shattuck, St. Mary’s where he coached many current NHL players. Eric also worked at the NCAA Division 1 level as Assistant Coach for the University of Maine. He was also an Assistant Coach with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL at the major junior level and was a consistent playoff contender at the minor pro levels as an Assistant Coach, Head Coach, as well as serving as General Manager. Eric has NHL pedigree serving six years of experience with the Calgary Flames organization.

Nick Skerlick

Academy Director & U18 Head Coach

Nick enters the 21-22 season as a 27-year-old. His first two seasons ((81-29-5) his teams saw much success with the NAHL East Rival, The New Jersey Titans affiliate team. In those two seasons, his players earned a total of 40 games of call ups, 12 advancements into the USHL or NAHL, top 20 finishes, and an Atlantic District Finalist (Covid-19 DNP Final). 

Before coming to Maine, Nick also worked with The Amarillo Bulls scouting staff for four seasons: earning a position with them in his junior season, playing for NCAA Division III program Lebanon Valley College, under Head Coach Don Parsons. While on the Amarillo staff, The Bulls saw three playoff appearances and one Robertson Cup appearance under Head Coach, Rocky Russo, who coached Nick in his final Junior Hockey season. 

Nick’s primary focus and biggest quality is player advancement yielded from the development of habitual qualities that enhance a winning culture at any level or life setting. Six players followed him from New Jersey giving the inaugural academy season in Maine a good base where the team saw a (40-11-2) record, 20+ games of NAHL call-ups, 10 NAHL player tenders, 2 NCDC Tenders, a Nationally ranked 6th place finish, a 14-game winning streak, and a USA Hockey Nationals Invite. 

Ryan Shelley

U18 Assistant Coach

Ryan is in his second year with the Maine Nordiques organization. In the 2019-2020 season, he was the assistant coach for the L/A Nordiques of the NA3HL. Ryan’s time with the L/A Nordiques was highlighted by helping the team achieve a 33-13-1 record. Prior to joining the Nordiques, Ryan founded Inside Edge Hockey LLC in 2015, a company focused on skill acquisition and video analysis for players and goaltenders alike. Using an athlete centered coaching style, his clients span from youth hockey, junior hockey, and the NCAA Division 1 level. In addition to his coaching background, Ryan’s skill in video analysis has helped him educate many former clients. As such, he is excited to be the Maine Nordiques (NAHL) video coach for the 2020-2021 season as well as the MNDP Assistant Coach for the U18s.

Prior to coaching, Ryan played his secondary hockey with Hebron Academy and Cheverus Prep. He then played juniors with the Portland Junior Pirates before committing to the University of Maine, where he was coached by Tim Whitehead and Grant Standbrook.

Doug Rose

U16 Head Coach & Youth Hockey Coordinator

Doug joins the MNDP after finishing his professional playing career in Europe. Doug played NCAA Div 3 at Stevenson University graduating in 2018. Doug’s junior hockey experience took place playing for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in the NAHL and was part of the 2014 Robertson Cup Championship team. Doug has been a skills-and-skating coach out of Hollydell Ice Arena as well as working with youth programs in various cities across North America and Europe.

Kyle Warren

U16 Assistant Coach

Kyle Joins the MNDP staff directly from his playing career. Kyle recently played for the New York Applcore where he was captain during his second year. Prior to Applcore, Kyle attended Gilmour Academy for a postgraduate year following four years at the Selects Hockey Academy at South Kent School. At South Kent, Kyle was Captain at the U14 and U16 levels, while off the ice Kyle was voted Student Prefect by his peers as one of the leaders of the student body for his senior year.
