The Nords and Titans squared off in a best of 5 round 1 East Division matchup to see who would play The Maryland Black bears for The East Division Title.
The first period didn’t feature the greatest start for The Nords as The Titans were able to dictate the pace of play and get 2 quick goals 4 minutes into the frame. Things would change in The Nordiques favor as Matt Connor would intercept a pass in the slot and find Tristan Fasig, fresh off a line change, for The First Nordiques goal in the game. The second goal came just moments later as Caden Pattison would be denied on a breakaway opportunity; the rebound would then kick to Jack Strauss, who found James Phillpott who shot a puck towards net, that would be intercepted by Caden Pattison who put it home to tie it at 2. The titans would then take the lead again on a shot that Outen was screened heavily on.
The 2nd period action started off quick with The Nords down by 1, as they would swing to the power play and Stefan Owens would burry a goal to tie it up just 44 seconds into the frame! The Nordiques would then get another from The Sheriff, Jack Strauss, who banged home a shot that deflected off the end boards on an Andy Noel shot. That would give The Nords their first lead in game 5. After some more back and forth action, there was chaos in front of the net and with The Titans goalie down; Cannon Green would then bang home a chance in front to give the Nords some breathing room.
The 3rd period featured some strong Titans pushback, but The Nordiques would be able to fend them off and kill off a penalty. Ty Outen was also stellar in net in the 3rd making some big stops. With 2 minutes to go The Titans pulled their goalie, but could not find the back of the net as The Nords would hang on and take game five, 5-3.
The Nordiques will now play The Maryland Black Bears in The East Division showdown to see who raises the 2020-2021 East Division banner and goes to Minnesota to play in The Robertson cup final 4.
