The Maine Nordiques and The Maryland Black Bears squared off for a pivotal game number 2 in The East Final.

The first period had some good back and forth action; more of the neutral zone style of play that we saw in game 1 where both teams were trying to force mistakes on the other, but both teams were able to keep their footings and battle to a 0-0 tie after the first period.

The 2nd period finally saw some scoring; as it took 7:32 for Isaiah Fox to receive a great stretch pass from Stefan Owens, wait out the goalie and burry it on the back hand to give The Nords the 1-0 lead. The back half of the second period saw another Nordiques goal, as Reese Farrell charged up the boards in the offensive zone and dropped a pass for Patrick Schmiedlin who fired a quick wrist shot home to give The Nords some breathing room. Ty Outen also made a big back door stop late in the period to keep it 2-0 Nords after the second period.

The 3rd period started with some great pushback by The Black Bears, but they weren’t able to score. The Nords got some offensive chances as well; but neither could find the back of the net until The Black Bears would get set up in the Offensive zone, and fire a wrist shot that got tipped in front and beat Ty Outen. 2-1 Nords with 3 minutes to go. The Bears once again pulled their goalie; but The Nordiques defense stepped up with the extra attacker and were able to limit The Black Bears offensive chances. The Nords then got in the offensive zone with an empty net; Tristan Fasig would push one past the goal line from his knees to give the Nords a 3-1 lead with 1:22 left. The Black Bears would then call their timeout and try to score again from a blue line shot. But Cannon Green picked off a shot and went down on a breakaway on the empty net and sealed the deal. 4-1 Nordiques for the 2nd night in a row!

The now have a commanding 2-0 series lead and need just 1 more win to claim the crown of Beast of the East and move onto Minnesota to play in the Robertson Cup final 4.

Game number 3 is Thursday in Maryland at 6:30pm.
