NORDS Take 3 In 2020 Supplemental Draft

May 13, 2020

The 2019-2020 NAHL season was cut short due to unforeseen circumstances with the current COVID-19 situation, a 3 round draft was put into make sure teams were on track for next season with player recruiting.

REESE FARRELL: The first pick in the draft. The Nordiques selected a Maine Native with the addition of former NMH Captain, right-handed shot Reese Farrell. Reese is familiar with the Androscoggin Bank Colisèe having played in a St. Doms academy uniform. Most recently Reese played with the GBL Jr Bruins and Northfield Mt Hermon School where he combined for 45 points in 38 games including 13 goals and 32 assists. When asked about him, Associate Head Coach Matt Pinchevsky said “Reese is a great addition to our depth and our culture. He is a great fit and will translate well after concluding his dominant senior year in prep hockey.” Head Coach Nolan Howe said “ His 200-foot game is something we are really excited about, but I think he has a good release, a good shot and I think he can score goals. “The Nordiques look to add some more offensively as their leading scorer and captain Noah Kane reached the end of his eligibility for junior hockey and is off to play NCAA hockey at Mercyhurst. The Nords are also looking to Farrell long term and his hockey future. Nolan Howe started “ We felt really comfortable we were bringing a player that can grow with us over the next two seasons and hopefully use us to advance on to the Division I level while playing hockey in a Nordique sweater.” We look forward to seeing what Reese can do on the ice!

COOPER SWIFT: With their second pick, the Maine Nordiques selected junior hockey veteran, defenseman Cooper Swift. Cooper split last season between the NCDC and BCHL. Cooper calls West Hartford Connecticut home and is a 2000 birth year player entering his final season of junior hockey eligibility. Cooper stands at 6’2 and will be counted on in all situations. He will also bring about a veteran presence and a sense of leadership in the locker room. Matt Pinchevsky spoke highly of Cooper, stating he “ =will quickly prove to be a league leader and get D1 schools attention.” head coach Nolan Howe stated that he views him as the missing piece in the Nords roster stating “We felt like he’s a missing piece in our roster build as a guy that can come in and play good minutes for us, playing in a lot of different situations and anchor what we hope to be a really strong defensive core.” coach Howe wants to look at the D core to improve this season on both sides of the puck to improve their Goal differential, something that’s key in the East division.

KADSEN JOHNSON: The 3rd and final pick brought a familiar face, in defenseman Kadsen Johnson. Kadsen was a big part of the MNDP’s success last season racking up 11 goals and 13 assists over 44 games played. Kadsen also played with the ISS Kings program, coached by Nolan Howe, and is a native of Pittsburgh. Kadsen can get it done both offensively and defensively and will be a staple on the blue line and is set to be a fan favorite. Kadsen continues to be a part of the Nordiques process, and their ladder of development. When asked about Kadsen’s journey to the “ Maine land “ Pinchevsky stated: “ Kadsen’s trust in the process and ability continues to earn himself opportunities at the higher level, we are all very excited about his potential. “ Kadsen started last season at “ Maine “ camp, grabbing the Nordiques leading scorer and captain Noah Kane’s attention. Kane stated “ you gotta look out for that guy. “ an impressive statement from the D1 commit. Howe has coached Kadsen over the last 6 seasons and fans, schools, and scouts will also be able to get another taste of the Nordiques continued MNDP ladder of development. With former players such as Caden Pattison, Tristan Thibeault, Luke Antonacci, and Marco Duronio, coming from the MNDP, the Nordiques process is becoming a go-to path to the NAHL and a coveted D1 commitment, Kadsen looks to set another example of the Nords path to college.
