The Maine Nordiques squared off against the Tomahawks for game 2 of the weekend set following a 5-3 loss on the previous night. The Nords also welcomed NA3HL call-up Cade Wessman to the lineup.
The game started with a offensive storm from the Tomahawks that Gus Holt and the Nords defense fought off and turned into a goal the other way as Theo Thrun fired a shot on net; that generated a rebound and Patrick Schmiedlin was able to put home to make it 1-0. The Nords would then kill off a penalty and Gus Holt would make a big breakaway save but the Tomahawks would convert on the next face-off win. 1-1 after the first.
The second period is when things got crazy as the Tomahawks got on the board less than 5 minutes into the period. The Hawks then got onto a power play and would score again to make it 3-1. Less than a minute later a shot would be tipped home from the Hawks and it would be 4-1 Hawks. Avery Sturtz would come into the net for the Nords and the Nords would go back to the penalty kill, but get a shorthanded goal from Aidan Connolly. It was 4-2 Nords headed to a power play of their own but the Hawks would get a shorthanded goal and another one to end the second up 6-2.
The Third period started with a Caden Pattison fight win to get the Nords energized. Unfortunately, the Nordiques couldn’t slip one passed the Hawks goalie in the 3rd and would concede another goal at the 6:52 tally and fall to the Hawks 7-2.
The Nords hit the road for two games, with the Rebels next weekend on the 28th and 29th in Jamestown.
