Nords Crush Tomahawks with an Eight Goal Showing

April 8, 2022

The Maine Nordiques kicked off their last home weekend of the season against the Johnstown Tomahawks; looking to shake up the playoff scene as the Hawks were needing four points to clinch home ice advantage in the playoffs.

The first period got underway and a 2-on-1 lead to a Brendan Gibbons goal off a great feed from Zion Green. The Tomahawks would quickly respond to tie it. The Hawks would then add another later on and get a power play opportunity to which they converted on to make it 3-1 Hawks.

The Nordiques came out flying in the second and got an early power play where Nick Bernardo hustled to keep the puck in the zone passed it to Tyler Gaulin and buried it to pull within one. With time winding down in the period Matt Connor flipped a puck from his own zone up to Aidan Connolly who found Gibbons who threaded a backdoor pass to Tyler Gaulin who tied it at 3. The Nords didn’t stop there; however as they would head back to the power play and Theo Thrun cranked one top shelf to give the Nordiques the lead.

Avery Sturtz started the third period with what he did all game long and make some big saves en route for his first career win over the Tomahawks and was helped out offensively with a four goal third period; as Brendan Gibbons found one in close on a feed from Zion Green, Aidan Connolly found Zion Green back door with a great feed and Aidan Connolly and Theo Thrun added two more to give the Nords an 8-3 win and seven straight goals.

Game two is tomorrow night at the Colisee and is the last game of the season at home for the Nords.
