Game #32
The Nords took on the Johnstown Tomahawks looking for some revenge following last night’s 2-0 loss despite checking off many boxes during the game in a good effort.
The Tomahawks got a chance early and converted. The Nords would have to play from behind just two minutes in. Tempers would flail and the Nords got a power play out of it but would not bury one. The Nords would then head to a penalty kill that eventually turned into a four-on-four, the Nords used that momentum, where Aidan Coupe charged into the zone and made a great pass to Henrik Hallberg who got denied in front of the net. The Nords stuck with it however and the former East Star of the Week Aidan Coupe provided the Nordiques the first goal of their weekend to tie it at 1 late in the first. 1-1 after the opening frame.
To start the second period the Nords were determined and looking to build off their first period. Just four minutes into the period Henrik Hallberg found a streaking Jonny Meiers who put one home and gave the Nords their first lead of the weekend. The Nords would then head to the penalty kill and come away with another kill thanks to Kael Depape’s great saves in the net. It was a back-and-forth period until the Tomahawks got a power play late and tied the game at 2.
The third period started with both teams looking for the tally to go ahead. The Nords got a great chance on a power play and Filip Wiberg put a baseball swing on the puck and found the back of the net. After a goal that got some baseball teams’ attention who are looking for some pop next season the Nordiques had the lead once again 3-2 five minutes into the third. The Tomahawks went back to the attack and responded with a goal from the point. 3-3 midway through a chaotic third period. Tempers would rise and we would see 4-on-4 before the Nords took a penalty to give the tomahawks a four on three advantage. The Nords would kill it off and it would then transition into a Nordiques power play with eight minutes left to play in the third but got nothing to show for it. The tomahawks would get another power play and a shot from the point got tipped and the hawks got the lead for the first time in the game with three minutes left to play. The Nords battled but couldn’t tie it. 4-3 Tomahawks.
Next up is the Maryland Black Bears when the Nords return home Friday and Saturday.
