The Maine Nordiques put their six-game win streak on the line in their return home against the Northeast Generals.
The first period started with some great back and forth and solid Nordiques chances, but a turnover on their end gave way to a Generals goal. 1-0 Generals four minutes into the first. The rest of the period was back and forth, but goaltending prevailed the rest of the way leading to the Generals lead 1-0.
The Nordiques found themselves on the wrong side of a 5-on-3 power play early in the second, but some great goaltending by Kael DePape and blocked shots by Sterling Wolters would kill the Penalty. The rest of the period was back and forth with neither team getting much of any offense. 1-0 Generals after two periods.
The Nordiques would start the third on a power play, but would be unable to convert despite some good chances. The Nordiques forecheck however, got to work with Nick Bernardo would keeping the puck in the offensive zone passing to Brendan Gibbons who then found Kellen Murphy in front of the net and roofed it to make it 1-1. The Game was tied with one minute left to play, where the Generals would force a turnover in the neutral zone and convert on a tip in front. The Nordiques would pull DePape for an extra attacker, but the Generals would get an empty netter and seal the deal.
Game two is tomorrow night at 7pm when both teams battle, once again, for game two of veterans day weekend.
